The six day economic blockades on NH 39 and NH 53 called by All Naga Students Association Manipur (ANSAM) started Monday. The bandh was called in protest against the government decision to hold elections in the Autonomous District Council under the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Councils. Police sources said that the trucks and oil tankers which were hauled up in Mao gate bordering Nagaland were brought to Imphal with the help by security escorts today.
No vehicle were reported stranded at Mao gate or beyond on the Nagaland side on the NH-39 and at Jiribam on the Imphal-Jiribam section NH-53. No untoward incident reported on the first day of the blockade.
