Cyclonic storm kills one in Meghalaya

A woman was killed and 15 others were injured in a cyclonic storm that hit the southern slopes of Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district, bordering Bangladesh last night, an official said today.
A government official said that the storm also damaged more than 237 homes and agriculture and uprooting trees, electric poles. Dilli Koch, the official died inside her house at Langdewsaw village under Shella Assembly constituency after her house collapsed due to the storm.
Shella is located in the southern range about 45 km away from Sohra (Cherrapunjee), one of the famous tourist destinations in Meghalaya and 95 km from here.
Meanwhile, a government has rushed in a team of officials to Shella to assess damages of life and properties caused by the storm. Temporary relief has been extended to the affected families and homeless people.
