Four farmers under Mokokchung district were on Thursday presented certificate of appreciation and cash for their effort in implementing the system of Rice Intensification (SRI).
The felicitation programme was held at Conference Hall of District Agriculture Officer, Mokokchung.
The four farmers include Lanuyanger from Khinunger village, Tiatemjen from Ungma village, Kiremnuken from Longkum village and Rongsenlemba from Aliba village.
Subject matter specialist, Anokwaba while delivering the keynote address said research for system of Rice Intensification in the state was started in 2006 at SARS Yesimyong.
He said the advantage of this system of research was for double cropping with a vision for self-sufficiency by the year 2020. According to the record available, in Nagaland the record of Rice yield in 1 hector is 4.5 metric ton, while it is said that with proper implementation of the system of Rice Intensification 15 metric ton could be yield in 1 hector.
The result of Rice yielded under the system in the state last year is 7.5 metric ton in 1 hector according to the Training Officer, Temsuinla. She also encouraged the participants to disseminate the SRI to the farmers in the villages saying that the new system involved less labour intensive yet beneficial.
