Department of Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Phek district observed anti-malaria month on April 14 at CMO conference hall along with public leaders, chairman, GBs, women leaders, pastor and official dignitaries including Dr. Marebeni Murry, dental surgeon, Tarap. Dy. MEIO, Mhonchan Tungoe district media officer.
Speaking as chief guest, Mikha Lomi, Deputy Commissioner Phek appraised the participants and medical department for performing a job of life saving and imparting healthy living standard to the people in the district.
He also urged public leaders to give best effort in fighting the disease and strive towards bringing changes in health scenario, besides attending other activities.
Maintaining that availability of information triggered changes in health practices and play vital role in health care services, the DC also sought cooperation of public leaders in preventing malaria.
Chief medical officer, Dr. S. Hangsing in his key note address explained that April month has been observed as anti-malaria month in the state. CMO, Phek also revealed that 2868 blood sample were collected and tested in 2009 where 545 cases of malaria were detected and treated successfully.
CMO also urged on the occasion to cooperate with malaria control workers and to follow preventive measures for healthy living.
Dr. Tia M.S. and Dr. Neisakho DMO also spoke on the occasion.
Free insecticide treated nets (ITNs) were distributed to all the participants by the deputy commissioner.
Meanwhile, the department paid last tribute and respect to late Dr. Kumuni, director of Health and Family Welfare with a silent prayer.
The department also conveyed condolences to the family members and prayed that her soul rest in peace.
