AR commits to help Kohima Orphanage

The Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home (KODH) observed its 38th foundation day on Friday.
In his brief address, Commander 5 sector, Brig Ved Prakash said that the Assam Rifles were closely associated with the orphanage home and reiterated its commitment to help the home in all possible ways.
The Assam Rifles also donated two computer sets, two sintex, two almarah and a washing machine to the KODH. The items were handed over by Brig Ved Prakash, to Zaputuo-u Angami, founder KODH.
It was on this day in 1973, Mother Zaputuo-u Angami, then a practicing nurse took perhaps the most challenging decision to shoulder additional responsibility to parent an orphan which gave birth to the KODH. Since its inception till date, the Mother has taken care of 700 children, some of whom have joined the Indian army, some have become Government servants while some married and well settled with their families. The present KODH children have around 70 children.
Joining the KODH’s day, the Kohima District Cricket Association (KDCA) donated cricketing gears – Cricket bat- 2 nos batting pads- pairs, batting gloves- 2 pairs, Cricket ball-6 nos, wicketkeeper gloves -1 pair, wicket keeper pads- 1 pair and cricket stumps -6 jos and assured to the keep in touch with KODH to provide necessary equipment and help when required.
Speaking at the gathering Diethonguzo Miachieo(Sobou) said that inspite of hurdles, the KODH had been able to provide education, employment and in the recent past produced with caliber to perform in sports specially in the field of cricket.
He stated that in ongoing Nagaland Cricket Association Under-14 Inter District Tournament being played at Dimapur, two boys from KODH namely Vikholie and Vilalie, representing Kohima extremely performed well in the first two matches that Kohima played. “The KDCA feels that the cricketing life of two talented boys from KODH had started and that many more from KODH will follow suit in the near future” he stated and appealed to the mother to encourage her children to promoting games and sports.
The general secretary also appealed to all the sports association and department of youth resources to provide KODH with adequate equipments and ample opportunity for the development of the talents available at KODH. Children from the KODH presented various special songs and drama on their day. Earlier the function was chaired by Zedino Seyie, and the vote of thanks Arhi Theiinuo.
Meanwhile Mother Zaputuo-u Angami also expressed gratitude all the well-wishers for helping and supporting the KODH in both kind and cash on many occasion and assured to continue her dedicated service in the years to come.
