A training program on intensive aquaculture in ponds and tanks under district fishery office, Kohima was held from March 22 to 26 at Thizama government fish farm. The training was attended by 38 participants representing various villages of Kohima district. Kohima district has vast scope for fish production especially through the integration of fish culture in wet terrace paddy fields widely practiced across the district. Undermining the agro-climatic condition of the district, various topics of scientific approach on fish farming was disseminated to motivate the farmers to take up fish farming on scientific line to enhance the productivity level of fish from 1900 kg/ha/yr in ponds and tanks and 300 kg/ha/yr in paddy cum fish culture to 2200 kg/ha/yr and 500 kg/ha/yr respectively. The training programme conducted at the grass root level would contribute to achieve the aims and objectives of the sponsors, the National Fisheries Development Board, GoI, Hyderabad to increase fish production for National food security and develop fisheries as a sustainable source of income for our rural folks. The resource people were Yitsemo Kikon FD, T.Wabang Longkumer FD, Vikiho Shohe FD and Neitho-o Kuotsu D.F.O., Kohima.
