Panchayat hall compulsory: RD

Parliamentary Secretary, RD& REPA S. Phangyu Phom said the ministry had directed all village/panchayats to compulsorily have (BNRGSK) Panchayat Ghars (Panchayat House/Halls) and informed that the state may utilise 40% material Component NREGA for construction of BNRGSK.
Phangyu added that maximum expenditure would be 25 lakhs, Rs. 10 lakhs for each Blocks and Panchayats.
He urged project directors and block development officers to make the village developmental boards (VDB) more transparent and accountable.
Phangyu was addressing the project directors and block development officers at a meeting on April 16 at Naithu Resort, Dimapur to review the performance of DRDAs and blocks during 2009-10 and also to make preparatory plan for 2010-11.
Expressing concern with the officers, Phangyu stressed on the need of streamlining the system and urged the officers to be more sincere and honest.
Commissioner& Secretary, V. Sakhrie called for collective responsibility of all and shared that the officers had been given a big responsibility to help the people.
Director, Rural Development, Metsubo Jamir, who chaired the meeting, gave a brief overview on the status of scheme implementation at district and block level.
He pointed out the gaps and challenges faced during the last financial year and also made suggestions and remarks on how best to address challenges in the current financial year.
