Agricultural link road and a bridge constructed under the NREGS 2009-10 was officially inaugurated on April 19 by Hillo Semp, project director, DRDA in presence of Kashiho Sangtam, BDO Niuland, David Sumi, JE, RD Niuland Block, village leaders and elders.
The 4 km link road and the bridge which is vital for the farmers of the Nihokhu would cover more than 100 hectares of existing farm land which comprises of orchards, tea plantation, forestry, and fish farming. With the extension of the road, more area would be covered thereby enabling more villagers to adapt farming in larger scale.
Speaking during the meeting with the village elders, Hillo Semp said every village must develop a spirit of competition with others in terms of implementing the schemes and projects provided by the government for the villagers. He also said leaders and elders in the village should be well informed and aware about the schemes and how to implement the same for the welfare of the villagers.
Lauding Nihokhu for proper implementation of the scheme, he urged the villagers to put in more effort for improvement. He asserted that there would be no value in spending money if the fund was not put into a right project for the benefit the villagers.
He also opined that beneficiaries and officials of responsible departments were all interlinked and when villagers misused the schemes, the officials were also affected. He asked the villagers to work together with commitment to bring more development and also to inculcate the habit to give feedback. Kashiho Sangtam also spoke on the occasion.
Kakheho Zhimomi, chairman, Nihokhu Village Council expressed gratitude to the government and the concerned department for helping the village. He said the construction of road and the bridge would help the villagers to carry out farming activities and assured the department officials that the village would continue to sincerely and judiciously utilize the funds meant for village development in days to come.
