Following its resolution to wear “black arm bands” from April 22 to 28, as a sign of protest, the 6th RoP forum Monday directed all its constituent associations to opt the 6th RoP “under protest.” Agitated by the government’s inaction towards its demand, the forum in its general meeting held April 13 in Kohima had resolved to launch chains of protest till government conceded to its “rightful demand” of 6th RoP. In a press communiqué issued today, the forum chairman Dr. K. David Sema and secretary Vekho Vero said that though it had submitted memorandum to the government on March 5 last followed by ultimatum March 12, the government did not pay any heed. The forum pointed out that government of India had revised the pay scale of the employees w.e.f January1, 2006, considering the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities and the needs of its employees. In a comparison, the forum said on January1, 2006, Nagaland state employees were also purchasing essential commodities from the same shop where employees of all India services were purchasing. “Therefore, the escalation of prices of essential commodities was equally felt by the state services employees as all India services, which has effected the survival of our family and children for their educational expenses,” the 6th RoP forum underlined.
