Traffic Police began a crackdown on helmet-less two wheeler riders Tuesday in Dimapur where a total of 499 riders were booked under Motor Vehicles Act and a total of Rs.44,900 collected as fine.
The checking began at 7 a.m. and lasted till 11 p.m at various entry points on both riders and the pillion riders. Traffic police had issued a notification earlier last week informing that helmets were mandatory. Police will also enforce the prohibition order against unauthorised persons using beacon lights and designations on vehicles.
Dy SP (T) Longpok Lemtur said the checks will be carried out on a regular basis. Dimapur Traffic Police also asked all two-wheeler riders including public in general to abide by the rules as mentioned above.
Violation of any of the rules under the relevant traffic rules were also distributed in the form of pamphlets.
