Ten people were injured and at least 60 houses were damaged when a severe squall and heavy rains hit several parts of Meghalaya last night.
The high velocity wind and rain also uprooted trees in the suburb areas of the city here, disrupting power and telecommunication services.
Prelimnary reports reaching the deputy commissioner of East Khasi Hills district pointed that altogether 10 persons were injured in four villages in Weilyngkut, Nongur, Madannongur and Dora due to the severe squall. Five of the ten have been admitted in a hospital.
Meanwhile, a government team has rushed to Shella to assess damages of life and properties caused by the storm.
Temporary relief has been extended to the affected families and homeless people.
