Department of health and family welfare under Phek district conducted anti-malaria month observation on April 20 at Chozuba Church Guest House with Dr. neisakho district malaria officer as resource person and guest. The occasion was participated by various NGO’s, public leaders, chairman, GB’s, pastor, women leader and elders.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Neisakho (DMO) appraised the house and said malaria being a perennial menace in the state, health department observes April as anti-malaria month to prevent and kill mosquito at larva stage before rainy season.
He also briefed the role and responsibilities of public leader in preventing malaria and emphasized on disseminating health information to the community. Stating that mosquitoes breed in stagnant water, he urged people to remove water from ponds, pits, old cans, broken pots, drains and to keep in water reservoir.
He also stressed on signs and symptoms of dengue, J.E. malaria, as fever with cold shivering, high fever, vomiting and headache, heavy perspiration feeling tiredness and weakness when fever come down and urged them to go for blood test immediately and take malaria treatment.
The programme included demonstration by the malaria control workers and free insecticide treated nets (ITNs) distribution to all participants. Meanwhile, district media officer Mhonchan Tungoe appreciated the participant for their cooperation and in making the programme a success.
