Drivers of two trucks transporting rice for the Food Corporation of India (FCI) were kidnapped by suspected militants on the way to Imphal at Khongnem village under Senapati district along NH-39 on Thursday.
The two drivers, Shanta of Wabagai of truck MN04A-4438 and Laimayum Kullabi of Maharabi of truck MN01-7653, were kidnapped on Thursday on their way to deposit two trucks of rice loads from Dimapur FCI godown to FCI godown in Imphal.
The kidnapping of the drivers was found out when troops of Assam Rifles enquired into the two trucks which were found stranded on the roadside for the last three days.
Following the information by the troops of 39 Assam Rifles, a team of Senapati police rushed to the spot and took the two trucks into custody on Saturday, an official report received here said.
Police suspected the kidnapping behind an extortion demand from a militant group operating actively in the area. Senapati police have registered a case and has started investigation into the missing of the two drivers.
