Even as the issue of bogus, doubtful and absentee teachers in the school education department rocked the ongoing assembly session, a legislator has already raised apprehension that there were possibilities of such ghost employees in many other departments of the state.
“Today, we are talking of school education department, but there are lots of ghost employees in other departments,” DUDA advisor, E. E. Panteang said while participating in the debate on the governor’s address Saturday.
Talks have been doing rounds that such ghost employees existed in many other departments in the state. According to sources, many government officials in connivance with accountants of the department were allegedly drawing salaries of several ghost employees.
A government employee told this correspondent that hundreds if not thousands of such ghost employees would emerge if the state government constituted a similar investigation team as was done with the school education department.
Several major departments in the state having paying huge amount as salaries should come under scanner, the source said.
It may be pointed out that more than 70% of the state’s annual budget is spent on salaries and whether it includes salaries of bogus or ghosts employees question remains unknown.
