ATMA Kohima in partnership with department of Agriculture organized campaign on climate change and its impact on agriculture on March 26 at Viswema village. The need of the training was identified by BTT jakhama with the help of FAC. District Agriculture Officer, Kohima and PD (ATMA) Kohima G. Ikuto Zhimomi delivered the special topic on climate change impact on agriculture with power point and also the use of green manuring crops to enhance food grain production specially rice with exemplary field pictures where adoption of such technology had taken place in other villages.
Joint director T.V. Holo and Dr. Deepak Chetri, Deputy Director, Agriculture, Seyivonou, AO S,Kekriletou AO and Neichikho AFA spoke at the training.
JALUKIE: A one day training on agriculture and allied sector was organized by ATMA at Jalukie town hall on March 24 with EAC (Sadar), Imsongmeren as chief guest. The chief guest emphasized on the importance of technology and encouraged the farmers to be sincere in their endeavours. Dr Ndangkie (VAS) briefed on pig rearing through modern technology. DSO Peren, Wapang presented the economic prospects of sericulture while AO Jalukie, Zieleigai spoke on the practices of improving Jhuming and Imstisunep, Fishery Inspector expounded on composite fish culture.
MEDZIPHEMA: A-day long training on production of quality planting materials was organized by Central Institute of Horticulture on March 22 at CIH, Medziphema.
Delivering brief opening remark, Dr. Akali Sema, director, CIH lamented lack of awareness for the quality planting materials and called upon the nurserymen and growers to look into it. Dr. C.S.Maiti, Asst. Professor, department of Horticulture, NU, SASRD and Tokato, senior farm manager, CIH, Medziphema were the resource person. Altogether, 19 nurserymen, growers, unemployed youths and individuals from different places under Dimapur, Kohima, Wokha, Peren, Zunheboto attended the programme. Apart from resource persons, three skilled budders from CIH, Diezerenou, Ajay and Kevikolie also demonstrated grafting and budding operation.
Dietholhou Rakho, assistant horticulture specialist, CIH who recently took the cashew growers from different districts of Nagaland to Brahmaver, Karnataka for exposure cum training gave various tips of cashew cultivation. It may be mentioned that CIH, DAC, Ministry of Agriculture, Medziphema in collaboration with the directorate of cashew and cocoa development, Cochin sponsored 48 Cashew growers from the State of Nagaland for the exposure trip cum national level training on “Cashew Production and Post Harvest Technology” at Zonal Agricultural Research Station (ZARS) from March 12 to14.
WOKHA: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Wokha, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre conducted large scale frontline demonstration on biofertilizer known as Azospirillum and Phosphotika for jhum paddy at five different villages viz. Yimkha, Longsachung, Longsa, N. Longidang and Okhye Yan of Wokha district on March 2, 3, 12, 15 and 16 respectively covering more than 300 farmers.
Resource person was N. Khumdemo Ezung, programme coordinator (i/c), KVK, Wokha and SMS (agronomy). Different methods of application such as seed treatment; seedling root dipping, drenching and soil treatment was discussed. Free inputs of Azospirillum and Phosphotika biofertilizer sponsored by ATMA Wokha and KVK, Wokha were distributed to all the participating farmers.
PHEK: Phek ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema conducted a training-cum-awareness and sensitization programme on “Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Right Act” on March 23 at SIRD conference Hall, Phek Town, Phek. Nyo Satuo, ADC, Phek district was the Chief Guest. Dr. B.P. Bhatt, Joint Director, ICAR, Nagaland Centre, who briefed about activities of Protection of Plant Varieties & Farmers’ Right Authority (PPV&FRA), New Delhi. In the Technical Session, the resource persons of this programme, Dr. B.P. Bhatt delivered a lecture on “The types of intellectual property rights – the PPV&FRA”; and Dr. Moanaro highlighted on “available germplasm on horticultural crop and orchid in Nagaland” District”.
DIMAPUR: One day awareness cum training programme was organized on impact of weather and climate of farming region on crop production was organized by KVK Dimapur, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Medziphema, Nagaland Centre.
The occasion was graced by Prof. D.P. Sharma, Dean, SASRD, Medziphema as Chief Guest’s and M.K. Mondal, DGM, NABARD as guest of honour. Dr. B.P. Bhatt, Joint Director, ICAR Nagaland Centre, M.K. Mondal, DGM, NABARD and N. Wetsah, DAO Dimapur spoke at the training. State departments, (Agri. and Sericulture), SMS from different KVK’s, and farmers from Pherima, Medziphema, Kukidolong, Bade, Diezephe, Seithekiema A, Jharnapani and Molvom village attended the training.
BADE VILLAGE: One day training for introduction of improved high yielding vegetable crops was held on March 24 at Bade village community Hall. Technical experts from SASRD spoke on scientific management practices. Besides B Sc (Ag) final year students selected active members from six self help groups attended the programme. Vegetable seeds including summer squash, cucumber and watermelon along with poly bags were distributed among the selected farmers for developed model demonstration plots of newly introduced vegetable crops in their village.
MOKOKCHUNG: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Mokokchung conducted an awareness programme on commodity market at Tuli on March 24. The target farmers’ were mainly rural youth and progressive farmers.
Delivering keynote address, Nungsang SDAO, Tuli shared the present marketing condition and problems faced by producer in the district as well as the state.
He also encouraged participants to educate and collect information of district, state and national in the field of marketing before they stepped in direct market. In the technical session, resource person Samuel Sangtam, SMS, KVK, Mokokchung explained on derivatives market and commodity derivatives, pricing and using commodity future market, trading future market, clearing and settlement.
