Recently re-elected Rajya Sabha MP, Khekiho Zhimomi said that his priorities for the next few years included the Naga political issue, women development, agricultural issues etc.
Addressing party workers and well wishers at a felicitation programme for him, held at his residence in Dimapur on Tuesday, Khekiho said that the most important mission for the Naga people was to solve the Naga political issue at the earliest. Talking to this reporter later, Khekiho also affirmed that he would certainly look into women development related issues admitting that no country could progress without contribution from women.
Asked what pressing matters he would take up with the central ministries, the second time elected MP said that agricultural issues were certainly on his mind. He felt that a Regional Working Committee (RWG) should be constituted to advise the Central Working Committee (CWC) for implementation of various central schemes.
Stating that he does not represent only the Nagas of Nagaland, Khekiho pointed out that Naga people also included those from Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar.
He said human wisdom alone was not sufficient to ventilate the problems to the central government.
Khekiho asserted that his election to the upper house was a “political salvation” and expressed gratitude to the party leadership, chief minister, Neiphiu Rio and other party workers for placing their trust upon him. He said that the 40 votes which he obtained in the election would not have been possible without them. “Victory is for the party, from CM to the party members. I am just a beneficiary” he maintained.
Khekiho called upon the party members to stay united and discharge their duties with utmost sincerity. The MP also expressed hope that Dimapur would be an NPF bastion during the next state assembly elections.
