New security advisor for Manipur CM

The new security advisor to Manipur chief minister O. Ibobi Singh Gopal Sharma, retired IPS officer and former DGP of Jammu and Kashmir arrived here in Imphal on Friday. He will be in office by Saturday.
Manipur government on the advice of the Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram has decided to appoint a security advisor to the chief minister to enhance internal security in the trouble-prone state.
Gopal Sharma, former DGP of Jammu and Kashmir and had led many anti-militancy operations from the front in the state when he was the chief of police department and was selected by the government of Manipur among the panel of names provided by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Earlier, from the penal of three retired IPS officers provided by the MHA, Manipur government chose MI Kumawat, IPS (Retired), former DG, BSF and SS (IS), MHA for the post but Kumawat reportedly declined the post.
It may be mentioned that the Centre had recently directed NE states facing insurgency problems to appoint a Security Advisor each on the recommendation of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
