Minister for Planning and Coordination, Vety. & Animal Husbandry, Evaluation and Parliamentary Affairs said preservation of distinct Naga culture was very important to keep the unique identity of Nagas alive.
Addressing the gathering of youth and elders on the occasion of silver jubilee celebration of Poilwa Youth Organisation on Saturday as Chief Guest the Minister said today distinct and unique culture like Nagas had become an asset. He said culture had become a big industry, especially for tourist attraction, and can be become a major source of economic upliftment of the Nagas if properly and cautiously exploited. The Jubilee was held on the theme ‘Renaissance of Culture’. T.R. Zeliang said Poilwa village was bestowed with rich for flora and fauna and was an asset blessed by God.
Asserting that flora and fauna were important component of tourist attraction, he also urged upon the youths to endeavor in preservation and conservation of nature.
T.R. Zeliang also appreciated the Poilwa villagers for producing many public figures which included the first doctor amongst the Nagas, first Indian Foreign Service etc which was a pride of the Zeliangrong people.
Calling upon upon the youths to avail various schemes and opportunities given by state government under ‘Year of Enterpreneurs’, Zeliang urged youths to adopt proper work culture whether be it private or public sector. He also said that as a minister for veterinary and animal husbandry he was mooting to do away with government farm and instead divert the whole resources of the department to individuals and community for rearing animals. It is the private individuals and community who should work more and try to produce sufficient for the state, he said adding that once the huge import of meat and its product from outside were stopped, the economy of the Nagas will shoot up.
