Nagaland Home Minister Imkong. L. Imchen has rooted for a rail link between Dimapur-Chumukedima-Tuli along the foothills of the state that could also connect with Naginimora under Mon district.
In an interview with Nagaland Post here in Dimapur, Imchen said his idea for the rail link would not only provide a boost to economic development but also help improve communication within the state.
Imchen said the railway network would help transport bamboo either from Peren and Dimapur districts for the Tuli Paper Mill. Besides, he said the rail link would also be able to transport crude oil from the area to collection centres within Nagaland including coal.
Imchen also said he plans to take up the matter with state chief minister for discussion of the cabinet.
Strongly rooting for the plan, Imchen said rail and road communications within Nagaland has to improve considerably. He said the problems of having to pass through Assam in order to travel or transport goods to and from other parts of the state is a critical aspect that needs to be urgently considered.
He said the state government will take a decision on the issue of a MoU with oil companies. Currently, the MoU with the ONGC is to expire though the latter has stopped extraction of oil. It may also be pointed out that former LS MP Asungba Sangtam had proposed for rail link to Tuli and north-western parts of Nagaland with Dimapur.
