IBAPWO w’shop on cane, bamboo

International Border Area People’s Welfare Organization (IBAPWO) Kiphire conducted 15 days program on design and technical development workshop on cane and bamboo for at Phokhungri village, under Meluri Block, Phek district from March 10 to 2, sponsored by the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
The workshop was participated by the local pastors, public leaders, and youth leaders of the village, who encouraged the organizers by their presence and took keen interests in the workshop. Benjamin, a youth activist and a teacher, thanked the organizers and the resource for bringing such programs to the village to help support the aspiring artisans. He also commented that there never was a program from any agencies, voluntary organizations or the government department in our village, to help encourage and train the local villagers in the past.
In the workshop Kagholi Chishi, designer/resource imparted on the importance of acquiring the knowledge of different designs and techniques with the natural resources available within the easy reach of the beneficiaries. She also appreciated the artisans for their skills, cooperation and enthusiasm during the program. She said “The artisans, being gifted with self skills had a good acumen in picking up any designs given them. So, there’s a great prospect in training these artisans to provide better avenues for marketing the products besides training them.”
The organizer thanked the resource persons, artisans, village leaders and villagers for their cooperation in making the program successful.
The organization also thanked the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Kohima, Guwahati, Ministry of Textiles, New Delhi for sponsoring and supporting the program, without which the program would have never been implemented.
