Piqued over the undue delay in releasing the revised pay, deficit school teachers has resorted to three days mass causal leave in Meghalaya beginning today.
Over 4,000 teachers under the banner of Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) and the Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers and Employees Association (GHDSTEA) are demanding extension of the revised pay scale of the Fourth Pay Commission including 40 percent arrears. Earlier, the Meghalaya government had said that the deficit school teachers will also avail the facilities under the fourth pay commission, but the paucity of funds has delayed the implementation.
“The fourth pay commission had already recommended the implementation of the revised pay even to the deficit school teachers, but the government is delaying it,” Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association President , ED Nongsiang said. However, Education Minister M Ampareen Lyngdoh said that the delay in the disbursement of the revised pay is because of the hurdles in processing the demand of the teachers by the finance department as there is shortage of funds.
Terming the mass casual leave for “making students as scapegoats”, Lyngdoh asked teachers to refrain from calling such agitation which will hamper the students’.
