2nd phase ADC in Manipur notified

Manipur State Election Commission Monday issued notifications for the second phase of elections to three district councils of Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul districts which the polling will go on June 2 next even as the filing of nomination papers for the first phase elections in three other councils, Chandel, Churachandpur and Sadar hills closed at 4 pm today.
Meanwhile, in the backdrop of objections coming up from various civil organizations, separate election cells has been opened in Imphal to receive nomination papers. The returning officers of the ADC elections has designated assistant ROs at the office of the DC, Imphal West at Lamphelpat for accepting nominations for any of the potential candidates in their respective ADC, an official source said.
The state election commission made the arrangement following receive of reports of possibility of intimidating some of the potential candidates against filling nominations at the offices of the respective returning officers in pursuance of notification issued on April 26, secretary of the state election commission, Th Chitra said. The second phase ADC poll, the last date of filing nomination is on May 10, scrutiny will be held on next day while the last date of withdrawal of candidature will be on May 13.

Voting will be held at 468 polling stations across the three ADCs of Senapati, Ukhrul and Tamenglong having 24 members each. Out of total polling stations, 162 are in Senapati district, 170 in Ukhrul district and 136 in Tamenglong district.
