In a bid to check traders charging excessive rate and also duping the customers, staff Rate Control department of Dimapur Municipal Council swooped down on butchers selling pork at various parts of the city and seized about 500 kgs of meat on May 5.
According to a press release, two butchers from Supply Colony namely Raja and Chuba and three butchers from Duncan Basti namely Hoito, Oken and Sashi were found selling pork at rupees 120 per kilogram whereas DMC prescribed rate of pork is rupees 110 per kilogram only and also one Kasheto from Signal Basti was penalized for selling meat which was not fit for human consumption.
Further, the decomposed meat was disposed off and rest being distributed to different orphanages around Dimapur.
Meanwhile, Atovi Zhimomi, DMC advisor incharge of Rate Control said, it would be ensured that all the traders under the jurisdiction of Dimapur Municipal Council strictly follow DMC prescribed rate and that no traders would be allowed to defy the fixed rates. He further warned that strong action even up to cancellation of trade license would be initiated on the defaulters. Advior DMC Tokheli Kikon, also directed the traders to ensure and install proper weighing scale and urged the customers/public to be aware of traders duping the customers by using false scales.
Further, the aggrieved customers have been requested to call on 03862-236815, 9436655555 and 9436012147 to lodge their complaints.
