District level training programme on house listing and housing census was held at Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall at Mokokchung on Wednesday. It was organized by directorate of census operations, Kohima.
The census Department lead by its Director, Hekali Zhimomi along with five senior officials conducted the training.
The director regretted that census was not carried out in Nagaland accurately till 2001. She said population figures and data provided in the census were ‘unimaginable’ and that population growth shown in the last census showed highest in the country at 60% to 120 %.
Giving this in mind, Hekali cautioned the in charge officers and leaders of social organizations who are to actively involve in the census operations to be ‘very careful’ ‘and called upon them to undertake the gigantic exercise with a commitment and dedication.
She expressed hope that ensuing census operations in the district would be a grand success.
She said training is being conducted in all the districts to dispel doubts and apprehensions and to create awareness about the importance of the census so that right data was provided to the planner to ‘plan appropriately’.
Deputy Commissioner, Lithrongla G. Chishi, called upon charge officers and public leaders to equip with rules and procedures of the census. Administrative officers in the district who are also charge officers of the census attended the training.
Director Census, Hekali Zhimomi also had a separate session with Gaon Boras, leaders from different wards and social leaders during the day.
The census of India 2011 will be conducted in two phases, namely (1) House listing and Housing census and (11) population enumeration.
