Longjang village gets sugar cane crushing unit

Department of Land Resources Mokokchung on Tuesday inaugurated Sugarcane Crushing Unit at Longjang village. The unit was formally inaugurated by District Project Officer (DPO), Land Resources Department Mokokchung N. Khoto Koutsu.
District Project Officer stressed that government was trying its level best to extend help to farmers in the state by various means and that it was up to the farmers on how they performed their duties.
Adding that system of government and people was a two way system, District Project Officersaid government would do all possible means to help farmers and that farmer should likewise work so that both farmer and state was benefited.
He also said Sugarcane farming in the area was very practical going by the climatic and soil conditions and added that there was great potential for sugarcane and its by-products like jaggery, molasses etc. which has wide usage in many fields apart from being consumed locally. Looking at all these potentials, crushing unit were sponsored by the department, he added.
Citing the inputs from farmers of the area, District Project Officer said that a total of around 10,000 kg of jiggery could be produced in the year 2010-11 which he said, would be a huge financial turnaround for farmers.
Harping to the tune of the year of entrepreneur, District Project Officer expressed satisfaction that installation of the unit would go a long way in improving economic conditions of the farmers.
