6 Naga MLAs submit resignation

Six independent MLAs from three hills district have reportedly submitted their resignation to the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
A highly reliable source said the six MLAs from Ukhrul, Senapati and Tamenglong districts- Dr Kashim Ruivah, Morung Makunga, Awangbou Newmai, K Raina, Danny Sheiza and Wungnaoshung Keishing had submitted their resignation papers to the Speaker, Dr Sapam Dhananjoy today through fax messages to the Legislative Assembly secretariat.
However, it could not be confirmed from the secretariat if received the fax from the six independence MLAs currently camping at New Delhi. The Speaker was unavailable and officials refused to comment on the matter.
MLAs from hill districts of the state have been under pressure to tender resignations by various hill based civil organisations opposing elections to the Manipur (Hills) District Council under the existing amendment act, the Manipur (Hills) District Council (Third Amendment) Act 2008.
Elections to the ADC have been declared and the state election commission is all set to conduct the two phase elections on May 26 and June 2 next. Contacts with the MLAs could not be got to confirm submission of resignation papers as they were out of station from Imphal.
