NH, FNR members assaulted

Three senior functionaries of Naga civil societies were assaulted in their hotel room at Hotel Grandeur, Kohima on Sunday by two unidentified gunmen.
Members of civil societies disclosed that two unidentified gunmen with small arms, barged into the hotel room where Naga Hoho general secretary P. Chuba Ozukum, Naga Hoho secretary G. Vashum and FNR member Nepuni Piku were staying and assaulted them. Chuba Ozukum and G. Vashum were injured by gun butts on the heads while Nepuni was kicked on his body.
The gunmen also took away their mobile handsets, wallets and completely smashed a laptop and printer. The trio were rushed to the ICU, Naga Hospital Authority Kohima and received medical treatment.
Chuba Ozukum received a stitch on his head and G. Vashum two stitches on his face. Doctors said their condition was out of danger. Both are still recuperating in ICU, NHAK, while the Nepuni was discharged after first aid.
Police have stepped up security in the state capital after the incident.
Nagaland home minister, Imkong L. Imchen has condemned the assault on Naga Hoho office bearers at Kohima and described it as a “criminal offense” and “condemnable by all sections of the people”. In a statement, Imchen said it was unfortunate that instead of supporting and assisting the efforts made by leaders of the society, some people were “interested” to commit criminal offence against them.
Minister for health and family welfare, Kuzholuzo Nienu expressed shock andsaid it was also an attack on Nagas which should be condemned. He said the actack chappened when Naga leaders were trying to maintain peace and remove misunderstanding among various Naga political groups and maintain cordial relations with neighboring states.
Naga Hoho: Naga Hoho has expressed resentment over the assault on its general secretary, Chuba Ozukum, joint secretary, G. Vashum and FNR member, Nepuni on Sunday.
Naga Hoho speaker, H. K. Zhimomi and joint secretary, Nikhrolo Khalo condemned the incident and appealed to all right thinking citizens to condemn the “dastardly act” which has also insulted all Nagas. The Hoho has urged the responsible authorities to apprehend the culprits at the earliest and award them “befitting” punishment.
NSF rally: Condemning the assault on two Naga Hoho leaders and a member of FNR at Kohima on Sunday, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has informed that it will hold a public rally on May 10 at Old MLA Junction, Kohima at 10.30 am to protest against the incident. The federation has appealed to all citizens to attend the public rally.
NMA, NPMHR: Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) and Naga Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) have expressed shock over the attack on civil society leaders and peace activists, who were assaulted in their hotel room.
Condemning the assailants and their “heinous” act the two demanded the state government conduct immediate inquiry into the incident and nab the assailants and to award “befitting” justice.
YSTK, MSTK: The Yimjenkimong Senso Telongjem Kohima (YSTK) and Moayimti Senso Telongjem Kohima (MSTK), in separate press releases, expressed “strong” condemnation over the physical assault on Naga Hoho general secretary, P. Chuba Ozukum on Sunday at Kohima by unidentified armed miscreants. They also urged the authorities to book the culprits at the earliest.
