NSCN (I-M) and GPRN/NSCN have condemned the assault meted out to three senior functionaries of Naga civil society by miscreants in a hotel room at Kohima May 9 last. The NSCN (I-M) said it was “extremely disheartened” over the “diabolic act” of assault meted out to members of Naga civil societies. Describing the incident as “most unfortunate,” the NSCN (I-M), in a statement issued by its MIP, said two armed miscreants might not have acted on their own but were used by certain group to avenge its grudge against the progress of peace and unity process that was on fast track to strengthen “Indo-Naga political talks.” In another statement, the NSCN (I-M) “ministry of home affairs” secretary Dg. Robert said assault on Naga leaders by two “mercenaries” and female companion, allegedly under Manipur government’s payroll, was an affront and direct challenge to Nagas. Meanwhile, the GPRN/NSCN said it was “deeply shocked” to learn about the assault on Naga Hoho leaders Chuba Ozukum, G Vashum and FNR member, Nepuni Piku. GPRN/NSCN MIP in a statement said that perpetrators of the crime, whether committed on their own or at the behest of any authority, must be booked at the earliest irrespective of party affiliation. Pointing out that it did not believe in targeting Naga leaders, the GPRN/NSCN said such “barbaric behaviors” as Naga history showed, have always been counter productive. The GPRN/NSCN said it was prepared to assist investigating agency to unearth the truth behind the assault. Both the NSCNs have wished the Naga leaders a speedy recovery.
