Nagaland Peoples’ Front (NPF) which has been renamed as Naga People’s Front held its first Central Executive Committee meeting Tuesday under the nomenclature following recognition by the Election Commission of India.
“We’ve overcome everything, it is a big day”, said Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and termed the occasion as “historic day” in the history of the NPF, the oldest surviving regional party. Addressing the first CEC at the party conference hall here , Rio said “this will go in the history of the party” .
Stating that the party has taken a giant step with broad mind and vision,Rio hoped the party will provide the leadership for Nagas to reach a new height.
Reminding party members that the NPF is the longest surviving party and the torch bearer, Rio called on party leaders to propagate the party police, vision and programme at the grass root.
He also reminded party members that if they do not carry the Naga issue, it would be difficult for the party to survive. “Unless the people understood the party stand and policy, we could be dispersed one day” , he warned.
On the occasion, he also congratulated party president Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu and Secretary General K.G Kenye for the party’s achievements under their leadership for making the NPF inclusive of all the Nagas and also for bringing out the sixth amendment of the party constitution.
The formality for the change of the party nomenclature took time
Home Minister Imkong L. Imchen also congratulated the party president for the achievement. In his speech, Imchen said, since Naga people are scattered, the nomenclature Naga People’s Front was appropriate. Similarly, NPF Secretary General K.G Kenye also termed the day as “Red Letter Day”.
Meanwhile, the NPF extended appreciation to the Election Commission of India for approving the change in nomenclature of the Nagaland People’s Front to that of Naga People’s Front.
