KSU seeks clarification from HNLC

Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has asked the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) militant outfit to explain the reason behind the killing of Phershal Khongwang, a senior KSU activist in Meghalaya. HNLC’s involvement into the killing came to light after its arrested “Sergeant Major” Paniston Pakyntein confessed to police that a group of HNLC had killed Khongwang.
The top HNLC leader was arrested by Border Security Force on May 7 and was later handed over to Meghalaya police. Khongwang, the slain KSU president of Dawki area, bordering Bangladesh was “killed” after he was abducted by HNLC cadres from Shyiap on December 16, 2007. Lambasting the tribal Khasi militant outfit for denying its involvement in killing the KSU activist, Dohling said the KSU will convene a general executive council meeting here on May 18 to decide its future course of action against the HNLC.
Meanwhile, the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) today denied its involvement in the killing of Phershal Khongwang, a senior student leader in Meghalaya. the tribal Khasi militant outfit, in a statement denied its involvement in the killing of Khongwang and said the confessional statement made by arrested cadres was nothing but propaganda to bring disunity among the community.
The outfit also asked the KSU to find out the truth if Phershal had any grudges with the HNLC.
