HTC wants iPhone, iPad banned

HTC Corp said that it has filed a patent infringement case against Apple Inc and asked the US International Trade Commission to ban US sales of iPhones, iPads and iPods.
The case is a response to a patent infringement lawsuit filed by Apple in March against smaller rival HTC, which makes phones based on Google Inc and Microsoft Corp software.
Taiwan’s HTC said it is accusing Apple of infringing five HTC patents and asked for a halt of the importation and sale of the company’s popular mobile devices here. Apple was not immediately available for comment.
HTC did not give details on the patents in question in its statement. The ITC, a US trade panel that investigates patent infringement involving imported goods, has become an increasingly popular venue for patent lawsuits because it can bar the importation of products that infringe on patents.
“We are taking this action against Apple to protect our intellectual property, our industry partners, and most importantly, our customers that use HTC phones,” Jason Mackenzie, HTC’s vice president for North America said in a statement.
