In view of the present situation arising between leaders of NSCN (I-M), governments of Manipur, Nagaland and the centre, the Manipur committee for social concerns (MCSC), Imphal today appealed to the people of Manipur, irrespective of ethnicity affiliation, not to create any panic, confusion and spread rumors of “distrust and disharmony.”
The committee chairman R.S. Jassal, in a communiqué, has requested Manipur government to “display full faith” in Nagaland government and its people to re-commence ferrying of supplies through NH-39.
The MCSC has also urged individuals, organizations and government spokespersons to refrain from issuing statements that might be harmful to communal harmony and peace.
It also appealed to end burning of government buildings, looting and hijacking of vehicles and “debussing” people of one community around Awangkhul.
Meanwhile, the committee has expressed appreciation to the people of Nagaland and the government for ensuring safety of Manipuris living in Kohima and Dimapur.
It has also expressed support for the resolution taken by all communities’ groups who met under the aegis of UCM and various leaders May 10 last, where, it was resolved that nobody would disturb the peaceful living and exemplary co-existence.
MCSC further hoped that government of India would resolve the current imbroglio at the earliest.
