Students of Institute of Communication & Information Technology (ICIT), Mokokchung has warned that they would close regular classes from April 17
When this correspondent interacted with students of the institute, they alleged that despite repeated request to the authority to deploy lecturers the institute functioned with shortage of faculty and staff.
The move for the closure of all classes started when on March 15 students appealed to authority through a letter requesting for more lecturers. They also added that basing on the letter of the students; the Principal of ICIT forwarded a letter to the additional director directorate of technical education on April 10 with the subject “Shortage of faculty & staff at ICIT”. The Principal’s letter stated that the government has placed only two faculty positions and that the rest were outsourced.
The letter also added the institute at present had only nine faculty and two office assistants along with few grade-IV staff which was “inadequate for discharge of the academic as well as the administrative responsibilities.” The letter also stated that some of the faculties, despite their excess work load, doubled up as lab technicians/office assistants etc. which adversely affected their performance. Despite all this, students expressed apprehensions as institute had already started issuing exam forms to be held from June 2. It may be mentioned that ICIT is an ISO 9001-2000 certified Institute under the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Nagaland.
