Forest dept refutes NVCO’s claim on tax collection

In response to the news item issued by Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organization (NVCO) on rampant tax collection published in local daily, Sidramappa M.C., officer in-charge Chumukedima Forest Range said ‘Forest Royalty’ and ‘Nagaland Sales Tax’ imposed on truck load of sand were not illegal as claimed by NVCO. Further, it said an amount of rupees 199 has been realized as Forest Royalty and NST as per government notification and a valid money receipt and transit pass being issued for revenue realized as per the government rules in force and hereby the question of rampant collection of tax by the Forest Department as reported does not arise.
