United Peoples’ Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) senior leader Wajaru Mukrang, in a telephonic talk with this correspondent has informed that the Government of India in principal has agreed to comply with the demands of UPDS, primarily the demand for an autonomous state.
He informed that as a result of prolonged discussion with both the union and state government, the Assam Cabinet entrusted a committee last month to study different aspects of the charter of demands place by UPDS and the committee in league with the Government of India has made a good progress.
Mukrang further revealed that the Central government has also insisted that the principal demand placed by the other Karbi radical group, Karbi Longri NC Hills Liberation Front was identical in almost nature, so the KLNLF will have to be taken into confidence by the authority before complying with the demands of UPDS.
The United Peoples’ Democratic Solidarity leader also said that the KLNLF envoy was in close proximity with the State and Central Government in Dispur and New Delhi was hatching out a workable solution in this aspect.
