Rengma Students’ Union (RSU) during its tour to Tseyminyu Sub-division from April 5 to 17 found that quality education in many schools suffered due to shortage of teachers in schools. A joint release issued by RSU stated that education department in its redeployment order issued on February 14 was “haphazard” as schools in most areas were still having only 2-3 teachers for running classes A-5 which was causing confusion to both teachers and students. Schools in Rengma areas faced the particular problem of one teacher was permanently involved in SSA activities and trainings despite the shortage of teachers. To rectify this problem the union suggested both the SSA and the RMSA appoint their own employees to carry out their projects. Dwelling on the poor attendance of teachers the union also condemned irregular heads of institutions and ‘ghost’ teachers RSU said it would mark the absentee teachers and employees and send their names to higher authorities for further action and would not hesitate to take punitive action against erring and irresponsible teachers and staff.
