A road protection wall measuring about 37.5 meters under National Rural Employment Guaranteed Act (NREGA) initiated by Rural Development and constructed at the cost of Rs.10.5 lakh was inaugurated at Medziphema village on Tuesday.
The chief guest, Rural Development, Medziphema block, BDO Taliyanger while inaugurating the project in presence of village council members and elders of the village described the project as a proud moment for people of Medzihpema village.
He urged village council members, village development board (VDB) to make use of the sanctioned NREGA fund in a transparent and judicious manner.
He said since funds were being forwarded to rural area under a guaranteed act passed by central government, everyone should be responsible, while using the funds provided for development of the rural areas.
Stating that every funds provided under NREGA scheme was accountable, BDO asked villagers to keep proper records so that avoid any confrontation in the future with regard to utilization of the central scheme funds.
Stressing on the development, BDO said since Medziphema block has about 69 villages under its jurisdiction and with such limited staff members, many villages tended to be deprived of proper care and development under the scheme.
He also called upon village councils, elders of the area to press for bifurcation of Medzhiphema block so that more development could take place at the faster pace.
Medzihpema village council chairman, while delivering the welcome address lauded the rural development department for the work implemented in the state and further thanked the BDO and his subordinates’ staff.
He also highlighted various developmental projects undertaken under NREGA scheme in Medziphema area.
