Observing with concern that many NGOs, associations, organisations were in the habit of addressing letters, representations and even ultimatums directly to the office of the chief minister, the state government today said that chief minister’s office should be exercised as the recourse of last resort. The government has also noted that CMO was approached without first taking up the matter with responsible departmental officers and ministers. “As a matter of protocol, the office of the chief minister should not be used as a point of first call for expressing, demands, representations, complaints and should be used mostly as a point of last call when other means of redressal of problems and grievances are already exhausted,” an official communiqué issued by state chief secretary Lalthra said. Further, it has requested general public as well as NGOs, associations, organisations etc. to follow the protocol as far as possible in the future.
