A Community Awareness Camp, organized by the BTT (ATMA) Kobulong Block was held at Senden Salang, Kobulong on April 26 where different representatives from Council, Church, VDB, Pig Farmers, FOs of ATMA functionaries, SHG including from Yisemyong and Kobulong town attended the program. Dr. M. Toshi Aier, Convenor BTT ATMA chaired the program who also delivered welcome address.
Dr. Merennungba, DVO Mkg, in his keynote address stated that pig rearing is an integral part in our culture & the pork has become an important delicacy in every social occasion of our people.
According to him, with vision 2020, while the govt. is making all effort to promote its production and assist farmers in piggery, the farmers too need to reciprocate and be aware of the diseases of pig that has taken into account, as it causes huge economic loss t the farmers once its outbreak occurs and he also stressed the need for people’s participation in prevention & control of the disease.
The resource person for the program, Dr. Chubala Bernard, VAS Changtongya delivered on the topic “Swine Fever & Its Impact on Pig rearers in Mkg Dist.” through power point presentation.
She pointed out on the causes, mode of infection, signs & symptoms, treatment & diagnosis of the disease.
According to her, swine fever being one of the fifteen most dangerous diseases of the animals of the world & since, there is no specific treatment for the disease except to go for prevention through mass vaccination, early detection of the disease through manifestations of its clinical signs & symptoms & history are the most important factors, where the farmers & community’s awareness is one of the most crucial factors for its control & containment or further spread to others.
The program was followed by group discussions where most of the participants took in tackling strategies for the disease.
