Commissioner & Secretary Z. Zhasa IFS on Wednesday while interacting with the officials of Soil & Water conservation department at the conference of its directorate on Wednesday stressed on creation of more central nurseries in different climatic zones in order to meet the demand of planting materials in various projects.
Director, R.T. Asang Jamir briefed some of the activities of the department such as UNDP programme, watershed project under shifting cultivation, River Valley Project, Soil survey & Meteorology, conservation of water bodies etc.
Zhasa also advised the officials to promote vetiver grass/ khus-khus grass (vetivera zizonoides) as it served a duel purpose, as a good soil binder as well as essential oil which has ready market.
He advised the officials to work in unity to achieve its goal and also to do away with tribalism to attain the road map of the department.
He said, “We the agri and alied departments have a common goal to achieve ‘Food for All’by 2020”.
Additional Secretary, Yantsowo who accompanied the commissioner briefed the officials on how to deal with the RTI (Right of Information) and its implication/ procedures and also on preparation for the road show on “Year of entrepreneurs” 2010.
The meeting was chaired by the Director, R. T. Asang Jamir and vote of thanks was delivered by M. Solo.
