Although there was no official intimation to the Manipur government regarding the visit of Thuingaileng Muivah, general secretary of NSCN (IM), preparation for felicitating the rebel leader in Ukhrul district started Friday.
A highly reliable source said that a meeting of various NGOs in the town was held few days back to discuss on the organisation of a public reception to be held at the ground. Security has been beefed up with security forces patrolling in and around the town. Owing to security measures, important places in the town wore a deserted look on Friday. The United Committee Manipur (UCM) on Friday announced that the proposed visit of Muivah was welcome, but added they would not remain silent if Naga integration motive is behind his visit. A cabinet meeting was convened by Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh Friday evening which was likely to discuss on the proposed visit, an official source said.
