Octogenarians friendship day

Octogenarians of Kohima Village on Friday celebrated the fifth foundation day of 80+ Friendship Day along with Friends of 80 plus at Kohima Village Council Hall Kohima.
Former pastor of Khedi Baptist Church, Salhouthie Miachieo, an octogenarian spoke during the programme and acknowledged the organizers for organizing the function. Songs were presented by Liviko group and Methaneilie. A minute of silence was observed in remembrance of those who passed away during 2009-10. A team from Oking Hospital Kohima conducted medical check-up for the elders.
The group ‘Friends of 80+’ was formed by few likeminded citizens of Kohima village to reach out to elders above the age of 80 in a spirit of friendship, respect and shared responsibility. Since its inception in 2006, friends of 80+ has facilitated a number of get-together of all 80+ citizens of the village.
During such programmes, the elders not only get an opportunity to meet with each other but also avail medical care from medical team and volunteers. At present, there are 166 members of 80+ citizens under Kohima Village, of which 47 are male and 119 female.
