Rio launches ‘Year of Entrepreneurs’

Nagaland chief minister, Neiphiu Rio on Friday officially launched the “Year of Entrepreneurs” during Moatsu festival cum Road Show held under the theme ‘Interface for Enterprise’ in Mokokchung.
The program was attended by ministers, parliamentary secretaries, other top government officials besides invitees and guests from foreign countries.
Declaring the year of entrepreneur, Rio said Nagas have come of age to take up entrepreneurship pointing out that they have been a consumerist society and that it was high time to start production so that self sufficiency would be achieved. He said the government would select 1000 entrepreneurs and help establish small, medium and micro enterprises. Under the banner of the ‘Year of Entrepreneurs’ the government will sponsor while the Hohos will host and the entrepreneurs would showcase and market their products, he said.
Informing this, the chief minister called upon youth to take it as a challenge and urged the young entrepreneurs to come forward to avail the opportunity. He encouraged everyone to work so that production could be raised thereby benefiting the people adding that Vision 2020 was aimed at self sufficiency.
Greeting the Ao community on the occasion of Moatsu, Rio showered praises on them saying that Mokokchung has been named as the land of fashion and music since the Ao community were a step ahead among others in terms of political, social, economic and so on. He congratulated the Aos for pioneering in many fronts among the Nagas.
Rio said Nagas should work together politically, economically and socially for the betterment of the state. He said the first phase of the Road Show was a success and expressed hope that the second round of the Road Show would be better.
The chief minister later released a book “Guide to Enterprise Promotion” published by the Department of Industries & Commerce.
Guest of honour, minister for planning & co-ordination, veterinary & animal husbandry, T. R. Zeliang said that nearly 3,000 Naga youth who were sent out for training in different vocations during the last two years were returning and that they should start their own business units. He said the government would provide all necessary help to them.
Delivering the welcome speech home minister, Imkong L. Imchen encouraged the gathering to make the society a sustainable society and said that the uniqueness of Naga culture should be preserved. State chief secretary, Lalthara in his key note address said that the objective of the ‘Year of Entrepreneurs’ was to build up the year of capacity building. He said that in order to make a sustainable society one needed to build entrepreneurs and with this in view, the government has declared 2010-11 as the ‘Year of Entrepreneurs’.
During the program, the award for Outstanding Entrepreneurs and Recognition of life time achievements were given away by the chief minister, which included:
(A) Institution:
Ao Milen (Vernacular Daily) and Town Higher Secondary school.
(B) Individual Entrepreneurs:
Wapang Mollier (Vision Media Centre) and Tsukti Lkr (Longpok Enterprise & Whispering Winds).
(C) Life time achievers: M. Bendangnukshi Longkumer (Longkumer Enterprise)and Dr. Tongpang Walling (Woodland Nursing Home).
Deputy commissioner Mokokchung, Lithrongla G Chishi chaired the program and short speeches were delivered by president MCCI, Padmashree Sentila Yanger and senior journalist and social worker Prafulla Rajguru while special song was presented by Sentimenla. A large number of school children, social workers, tourists from Thailand, Bangladesh and Assam and people from all over the district witnessed the Road Show.
A cultural programme followed the inaugural function which was presented by various cultural troupes from Mokokchung and a cultural troupe from Assam. This was followed by the inauguration of the Entrepreneur’s Mall by the chief minister. Later in the afternoon, an interactive workshop on development and entrepreneurship was also held.
