Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has thanked God for, what it said, “dramatic lowering of level of overt violence and killings in Naga society due to factional rivalries.”
The NBCC has also appreciated the efforts made by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation for this positive breakthrough, for which, the Church said, it has relentlessly prayed and toiled from very beginning of the “Naga crisis.”
NBCC’s peace committee in its half-yearly session, held in Kohima April 29 and 30, took stock of latest situation in the Naga homeland, a NBCC press communiqué issued by NBCC peace committee chairman Huzo Meru and NBCC peace affairs director Rev. L. Kari Longchar said Friday.
The Church said it was the hope and earnest prayer of all Nagas that under God “A Journey of Common Hope”, treading the path of “Covenant of Reconciliation” charted with commendable courage and vision by the Joint Working Group would bring lasting peace and the rule of law desperately needed by “our society.”
Making an appeal to all the Naga factional groups that they become whole-hearted participants in search for reconciliation, the NBCC said its appeal was equally addressed to all Churches and the entire society.
It further prayed that “God grant that our wounds are healed and Nagas learn to leave the past behind to take up the urgent task of building a society that can survive and grow in a changing world because it is just, its people take God seriously and care for one another.
