Reacting to a news report “DDCF to resist renaming Dimapur” appeared in a local press May 26, the Chakhro Angami Kuda Union (CAKU) today said that renaming of Dimapur was a matter “directly concerned with the traditional landowner that is Chümukedima”, and that it was prerogative of Chakhro Public Organisation (CPO), Angami Public Organisation (APO) and the government of Nagaland.
Stating that since the matter was already “seized” by the “rightful authority”, the CAKU president K. Medom Angami, in a press rejoinder, said it would be wrong to “politicized it as purported by the so called Dimapur Citizens’ Forum.”
“It need to be appreciated that in order to maintain peace and understanding among all the different tribes and communities of Nagaland, everybody should respect the traditional jurisdiction of every tribe which the historical rights of the parent tribe Angami traditional area and then to all the Nagas and inhabitants of Dimapur,” it said.
Further, taking note of DDCF’s remark, which had stated it would oppose any move by the government to rename Dimapur which has a “historical background”, the Chakhro Angami Kuda Union said the remark was “completely misleading”, stating it attempted to “revive the demised kingdom which can never be resurrected.”
It also said that issue of renaming Dimapur or otherwise should completely be left to “traditional landowner”, adding that “benefactory citizens” of Dimapur should not politicize it under any circumstances.
