A twenty year old girl from Manipur sustained injuries on face and eyes when a man attempted to provoke and seduce her at Murnika, South Delhi on Thursday around 7 a.m. The incident happened when she was talking a walk in a nearby park along with friends.
Immediately after the incident, the victim contacted North East Support Centre & Helpline (NESC&H) from the spot who in turn contacted Vasant Vihar Police station and gave more details about the incident as the police did not turn up even though the police helpline was contacted for help.
A press release issued by Madhu Chandra, spokesperson of NE Helpline stated that he was mocked at by the police officer at Vasant Vihar Police station who took the call saying “Mizoram wale?” and refused to disclose his name.
Meanwhile, the NESC&H while stating that when Chandra who along with his team who have been extending help to north east communities could be mocked at by the men in uniform, also expressed concern as to how much the general public from North East India living and working in Delhi would continue being harassed by the locals.
