Farmers tour Mokokchung

A farmer’s exchange tour programme was organized by department of Agriculture from May 18 to 21. Farmers from Kohima, Dimapur, Wokha, Phek and Peren farmers visited Mokokchung to gain first hand knowledge of the practices followed in other districts.
Farmers visited Nagaland Banana Chips factory Changtongya and interacted with factory workers about the production, processing, packaging and marketing and later visited Rose Garden, Yisemyong famous for production of cut flowers exported to foreign countries.
The team also visited State Agriculture Research Station (SARS) at Yisemyong where locations like experimental plots, model watershed, landscape, agro shade net house, mini tea processing unit under SARS including the recently established KVK Yisemyong and interacted with scientists of KVK.
On the second day, farmers visited Longkhum village which is famous for cultivation of Tomato. Jhum field and tomato cultivation site were shown to the farmers and held an interactive session at Village Council Hall. The visiting farmers were impressed to know that about 100 farmers are engaged in tomato cultivation at Longkhum village which could feed the tomato markets of Mokokchung and adjoining areas for about 3 months. Later they were taken around the village for sight seeing and return to visit Tea cultivation at Mopongchukit village which is also a tourist destination in Mokokchung district and also visited Impur Mission Centre under ABAM.
