ZPO elects new team to initiate census drive

Zeliang Peoples’ Organization (ZPO) in its general meeting on May 29 in Peren elected new team of office bearers. The new team consisting of 50 members would be headed by Azu Newmai as president and Haigam Kauring as general secretary. The house observed one minute silence in honour of its former president late Haireulungbe Siang.
The house resolved to assist the family of late Mnanglakpe Hega who allegedly died in a mysterious circumstance to seek justice. ZPO on observing that location of Peren government was too congested resolved to pursue college authority to shift it to the new proposed site (Mpai junction).
The house also resolved to initiate census drive among the Zeliangs of Nagaland, for which, village authorities were asked to maintain register by collecting one rupee per head. The organisation has reaffirmed its stand to stick to government notification dated December 1, 1063 as a cut off year as far as indigenous issue was concerned.
Further, the house resolved to pursue to upgrade Tening SDO (C) headquarters to that of ADC headquarters and urged the government to look into the deplorable condition of Peren- Lekie road.
