In view of the load shedding being imposed daily due to shortage of power supply, state department of Power has appealed the general public to restrict their household electricity consumption load in their own capacity.
A press release issued by department chief engineer, Er. D. Basumatari stated that power demand was expected to increase with the ensuing Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) World Cup 2010, however, availability of supply would remain unchanged.
In this regard, the department has requested all consumers to restrict their household load by observing the following measures so as to enable everyone to watch the match uninterrupted.
Department has advised consumers to switch off unnecessary light points such as compound lighting, verandas, bathrooms, rooms not in use etc; use energy efficient fluorescent lamps such as tube lights & Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) in place of incandescent or ordinary bulbs; restrict use of Air Conditioner during time of match as a single normal Air conditioned (AC) consumes electricity equivalent to 50 television sets; restrict use of heating equipments such as cooking heaters, water heaters, rice cookers etc; and switch off refrigerators during the matches.
Meanwhile, informing that power supply to all industrial consumers would be restricted during match hours, department also urged public to create awareness and make neighbours “equally” responsible and further informed to report any case of electricity theft detected in respective locality to the nearest electricity office.
