State’s Census 2011 begins

The state Census 2011 would begin on Tuesday (June 1).
Briefing media persons on Monday at Hotel Japfu Kohima, census director Hekali Zhimomi, IAS said that the 1st phase of census would take place from June 1 to July 15 with enumerators visiting the houses. Two kinds of schedules would be canvassed by the enumerators – “Houselisting and Housing Census Schedule” and “National Population Register (NPR) Households Schedule.” The second phase would be conducted from February 1 to 28, 2011.
The census director urged all the people to assist the census department in carrying out the Census 2011 by giving correct and accurate figures, adding that a right census would help the state in planning machinery in the right perspective and a better approach towards development.
Stating that false information would invite penalty under Census Act, 1948 and Citizenship Act, 1955 and the Citizens Rules, 2003, Hekali said only the head of the household or an adult member of the house could respond to the visiting census officials.
She informed that there were 11 Principal Census Officers, who are the deputy commissioners of respective districts, with 133 Census Charges - 114 in rural and 19 in urban, 138 Master Trainers, 3800 –House Listing Blocks, 740 - Supervisors 4200 – Enumerators to carry out the Census 2011 in the state. The public could also contact helplines- 80146-00620 and 94028-30480.
Hekali has earlier stated that there would be no room for mistakes in Census 2011.
Meanwhile, the Census Officials would call on the state chief minister Neiphiu Rio at his official residence on Tuesday at 9.00 am for enumeration in Census 2011.
